However, there were four types of sunglasses, which were more famous and popular then any other types of sunglasses during this period. The Wayfarers, Robot-sunglasses, Aviator-Sunglasses and the Shutter Shades were the classic 80’s style sunglasses that were quite famous and popular.

The Wayfarer-sunglasses were the most famous types of sunglass styles of the 80’s. Hollywood movie stars, celebrities and models endorsed these sunglasses and made them quite popular. Synchronizing with the 80’s culture of mismatch and bright color combination, Wayfarers used two-toned earpieces for the sunglasses having bright fluorescent colors in contrast to the dark shade of the lens. The Robot-sunglasses were another type of sunglasses, which gave you the look of a robot or of an alien from outer space. These are thin striped shades, which covers your eyes and moves towards your ears as a single piece. These lost their popularity in the late eighties for unknown reasons.

The teardrop shaped Aviator-sunglasses were also sought after sunglasses and after the release of the movie Top Gun; the popularity quotient seemed to increase. It has a very smart and masculine look and until date is a very popular style among modern sunglasses. The Shutter Shades were not exactly sunglasses, had no functional value as they did not have any lenses, and had only a plastic shutters in the frame.
